This lesson plan exhibits the depth of analysis and knowledge I have regarding methods of teaching composition. It offers an excellent, well-thought out and rigorous educational unit that can be easily adapted for the undergraduate level. It also displays my ability to incorporate research about teaching into my approach to educating others. I show a clear aptitude for original thinking and creativity. It was created for Methods & Issues in Teaching Composition (graduate) as part of a final project, involving most of our readings. Beyond the overall unit plan, rationale, and context, it includes a couple of lesson plans and all relevant rubrics. Find it here.
This project portrays my ability to plan and guide English studies lessons that speak to larger issues. While the audience is my professor, rather than students themselves, it reveals my capacity for orchestrating intensive study in the classroom, and my ability to go deeply into one novel. I speak quickly, because we had to adhere to the Pecha Kucha format, and there was just so much I wanted to teach about this topic. I've since learned to simplify my audio, which you can see on the My Approach page of this portfolio website. This was created for Teaching Young Adult Literature (graduate), but the subject matter could easily be taught to undergraduates using the same or a different novel. Watch it here.
