This short video explores my most recent piece of longer research, how the male lead in Pride and Prejudice, Mr Darcy, develops and shifts his self-knowledge throughout the story as expressed in his silences and through his relationship to the female lead, Elizabeth Bennet.
My Teaching Philosophy
The most vital thing in teaching in our contemporary world is engaging with inclusivity and equity while employing across-the-class standards of quality and creating tremendous depth in lessons. My teaching philosophy is simple: inspire new ideas in students by using a variety of assignments to engage them in different styles and approaches to reading, writing, and thinking. Connect small details to big ideas, and support students in making those connections themselves. Employ the basics of literary scholarship and writing so that they have a strong foundation -- because in order to think and write outside of the box, you have to know where the box is and how it can serve as scaffolding for what you build. Encourage them to represent their uniqueness while maintaining adherence to rigorous rubrics. This must all be done with sensitivity to cultural and economic differences among all students and faculty.
